Seahorses of Bonaire 🐴🌊
Bonaire is home to three charming seahorse species! Spot the Longsnout (Slender) Seahorse in shades of yellow, brown, or orange on reefs and seagrass, the colorful Lined Seahorse, and the tiny Dwarf Seahorse—just 1–2 inches of pure magic tucked into shallow seagrass beds. Masters of camouflage, these slow-moving little wonders use their curly tails to hold onto corals and grasses, and fun fact--the males carry the babies! Finding one feels like discovering a tiny underwater treasure. With Bonaire’s calm waters, healthy reefs, and lush seagrass beds, it’s the perfect place to slow down, look closely, and experience some truly magical macro diving. Keep your eyes peeled—you never know when a little seahorse might be watching you right back! |
|
Bonaire’s Cutest Little Homebody
The tiny but mighty yellow-head jawfish is one of Bonaire’s most entertaining underwater characters! With its bright yellow head and curious personality, this little fish pops up from its sandy burrow like a jack-in-the-box, keeping a watchful eye on passing divers. You’ll often see it hovering bravely above its carefully built home, mouth full of sand as it tidies up its front yard. Patient divers are rewarded with a front-row seat to one of the reef’s most charming and quirky residents — proof that some of Bonaire’s biggest smiles come in very small packages. |
|
Bonaire’s Masters of Disguise
Bonaire’s reefs are home to the quirky frogfish, the ultimate masters of camouflage! These chunky little ambush predators can blend perfectly into sponges, corals, and rocks, often looking more like a lumpy piece of reef than a fish. Instead of chasing prey, frogfish use a tiny lure on their head like a fishing rod, wiggling it to attract an unsuspecting snack before gulping it down in the blink of an eye. Spotting one is like winning an underwater game of hide-and-seek—making frogfish a must-see treasure for divers exploring Bonaire’s vibrant reefs. |
