Just Go..Cozumel!
An Ultimate Insiders Experience
*November 2 - 10, 2024
Just 12 miles off the coast of Playa del Carmen, along Mexico’s famed Riviera Maya, Cozumel is a well-established, world class vacation destination.
Especially known for its warm, tropical water, snorkelers and scuba divers from across the globe enjoy exploring the island’s reef, teeming with aquatic life. At 30 miles long and 10 miles wide, Cozumel is just the right size to get around on a bicycle or motor scooter, but taxis are abundant too. The island’s largest town is San Miguel. With some 100,000 permanent residents, San Miguel is a lively tourist town. With hundreds of small gift stores, restaurants, night clubs, and bars attending to millions of tourists each year, San Miguel serves its purpose flawlessly. |
Cozumel has been named by Jacques Cousteau as one of the TOP 10 dive spots in the world. I don't doubt his expertise!
It is considered as one of the best scuba diving sites on our planet because of many reasons. One of them is undoubtedly the perfect visibility of turquoise water that reaches up to 50m. Then there's the multitude of sites that lay just off of the coastline, the variety of dive types available, the year round warm waters, the sea life and on and on and on. It is a true wonder of the Caribbean. Did I mention the intense colors, the corals, the caves, the abundant sea creatures including eagle rays, sea turtles and hundreds of types of fish? Every time you sink into the warm, glittering blue, it will be a lasting memory. Cozumel diving is suitable for all experience levels. There are more than 40 different dive sites to chose from. In winter is the migration of the spotted eagle rays. You can see them in large numbers in the months between November and April. The reef of Cozumel is home to the amazing Santa Rosa Wall, Palancar Reef, Colombia and Punta Dalila. These continuously rank top on the list of best dive sites in the world. Diving in Cozumel offers an awe-inspiring experience that captivates divers from the very first moment. |
Cozumel is known for some of the best drift diving in the world!
Drift diving takes up more than 50% of the type of diving on Cozumel, making this small island known for some of the best drift diving in the world. The steady stream of water helps to nurture the coral and sponges, while letting divers take advantage of the currents. As drift divers know, the faster the current, the farther you will travel, opening up more to see during the dive.
Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park
Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park encompasses the island’s best-known diving and snorkeling spots, including the Palancar, Columbia, and Paradise reefs, as well as the Devil’s Throat at Punta Sur and the shipwreck ofFelipe Xicoténcatl—a minesweeper ship used in WWII. The park houses up to 26 species of coral and 300 species of fish.
Established to protect and preserve the delicate ecosystems found beneath the waves, the park spans an impressive area along the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. This huge reef system extends across over 625 miles/1006 km along the coast of four countries: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. |
The Splendid ToadFish - Yes, it Croaks!
While diving in Cozumel, you’re guaranteed to see huge parrotfish, moray eels, stingrays, lobsters and—if you’re lucky—the Cozumel Splendid Toadfish. Once believed to be entirely endemic to the island of Cozumel, they have been found on the reefs of Honduras all the way up to Cancun.
Steven Rosenberg says "They are not called toadfish because they look like toads. The name originates from the fact that they produce a repetitive, audible croak that is associated with mating behavior. If you hear their croak during a dive, start looking around the edges of the flat, sandy areas adjacent to the lower edges of the reef. Scan the edges of the sand flats where they border the bottom of the reef slopes, specifically looking for small recesses or caves. The toadfish can often be found inside low caveopenings. Usually, only their bewhiskered faces will be visible."

Let's Go Diving!
On all dive days except Day 1 and the night dive, the dive boat will pick us up directly from the pier at our Casa. Which means... you can stay up later gazing at the stars, sleep in, have that 2nd cup of coffee, AND still make it to the boat on time! It's vacation, not BootCamp!
On most days, the boat will take us to two dive sites, then return us to the pier at the Casa.
We'll enjoy a surface interval on the boat -there'll be some snacks and purified water for everyone, but please bring a reusable cup as there are NO plastic cups onboard. We'll have our own, certified Divemasters to guide all the dives. They'll provide a briefing each day on the dive boat and a guided tour of each site. |
Atlantis feature flying bridges, generous deck and bow room and great expanses of shade. For large groups, Atlantis can comfortably accommodate 24 divers maximum. We will be responsible for loading and unloading of our personal gear. The dive team will load tanks & weights. It's best to use a mesh back pack to keep your gear organized and in one place. |
Cenote Diving is Magical
Come experience the magic of the Cenotes of the Mexican Caribbean! In the Riviera Maya these caverns are usually decorated with limestone rock formations called stalactites and stalagmites. Diving in a cenote is an experience in and of itself and it has scuba divers flocking here from all over the globe to see this underworld.
We'll do two immersions, with a short surface interval to rehydrate and savour some fruit. After the second dive we'll return to Tulum to visit a local restaurant to enjoy some authentic tacos or a delicious ceviche, and spend some time wandering through the local shops before we return to Playa Del Carmen to catch a later-afternoon ferry back to Cozumel.
